Mission and Vision

Our mission is to know Christ and to make Him known.

Our vision statemtent, All Saints A L I V E on the Circle, represents that not only are we located on Chevy Chase Circle, but also that we believe ministry is a never ending journey of life. It keeps going around and around, from assembling for worship, to growing in small group ministries, to taking that message out into the world. A L I V E stands for:

ASSEMBLE is the fist step into the church. For some, it might mean coming here on Sundays to worship; others might come in through our outreach program or marriage, or to have their child baptized. For others, it might mean just coming in during the week and praying in our pews.

LEARN begins when we assemble. We learn the language spoken--specifically, the language of Scripture and the language of all the church fathers who have gone before. It is also being in a safe place to ask the difficult questions... “Why did Jesus die? Why is there suffering in the world?”

INVEST comes next. You have been here for worship, learning the story of Jesus Christ, reading Scripture - now what? For some, it might mean investing their time in the church, becoming an usher, teaching Sunday School, baptizing their child, or even deciding to tithe their income. For others, it might be making a decision to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. It might be that you have been a Christian for years and are now ready to invest your heart in Christ.

VISUALIZE
life in a whole new way. By investing ourselves in the faith of Christ, we are often led to see the church, the world and our ministry in a new way. Maybe your decision to invest yourself in the church by teaching Sunday School caused you, over time, to become so attuned to the love of the children that you can never look at them the same way again. Or, it might be that you have invested yourself by taking a mission trip to Honduras, and now you visualize poverty in a whole new way. One of the blessings of giving ourselves to Christ is that we are able to visualize life with new meaning.

EVANGELIZE, giving the gift of faith away. You have come and assembled, you are learning the language of Christ through scripture, you have invested yourself, and are visualizing life in a new way. What do you do with it all? You give that gift of faith away, by word and deed. We evangelize largely in two ways: through our hands, working with the many outreach ministries supported by this parish, and through our lips. This is most commonly done through simply inviting people to church. Studies show that most people join a particular church because they have been invited. Or, it might mean telling someone else about your faith and why you believe what you do.
