"The Golden Compass"
Children’s movie based on a series of books with strong anti-religious themes

Dec 1, 2007

All Saints clergy, leaders, and staff advise not seeing this movie — as it’s a very deliberate attempt to undermine and negate our Christian faith and who we are as followers of Jesus.

“The Golden Compass” is based on the book trilogy by Philip Pullman, a proud atheist who belongs to secular humanist societies and is admittedly trying to influence children against God in a sly way. According to the author, he’s trying to “kill God in the eyes of children."

This film is based on Northern Lights, the first offering in Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy of children’s books, a series that follows the adventures of a streetwise girl who travels through many worlds populated by witches, armor-plated bears and sinister ecclesiastical assassins to defeat oppressive forces of a senile God.

The movie has been dumbed down to fool kids and unsuspecting parents in hope they’ll buy the trilogy, where in the end children kill God and everyone can do as they please!

The film stars Nicole Kidman and appears to be a “Narnia” like movie — so it’s getting major publicity.

Bill Donohue, President of The Catholic League has condemned the movie as a “pernicious” effort to indoctrinate children into anti-Christian beliefs.

No matter what age our children — we have a responsibility as parents and as Christians to make choices that are often hard and even more often, unpopular.

So think seriously about whether you want to expose your kids (or yourself!) to this film—and if you do, what message you’ll be sending them.
